Cornelia von Kerssenbrock

Cornelia von Kerssenbrock has studied church music and conducting at the Salzburg „Mozarteum“/Austria, attending classes with Nikolaus Harnocourt and a focus on interpretation of Baroque Music. She then furthered her studies at the Freiburg Music Academy/Germany with Peter Gülke and at the „Accademia Musicale Chigiana“ Siena/Italy with Gianluigi Gelmetti

Repertoire

In 1996
Ms von Kerssenbrock received the “Würdigungspreis” (honouring the best diploma and master degree of all Austrian universities of the year) of the Ministry of Art in Vienna / Austria. In 1999 she was awarded the “Händel Förderpreis” (Händel promotional award) of the city of Halle / Saale and in 2004 she received the “Zonta Music Prize” of Germany. She was a member of the promotion program (Dirigentenforum” (conductor forum) and was added to the list of “Maestro von Morgen” (Maestros of tomorrow).
Cornelia von Kerssenbrock specialized in Baroque music and is in the vanguard in various countries. She focusses on establishing and maintaining a Baroque repertoire, be it opera or concert. She also enjoys an experimental staging, where she combines her Baroque repertoire with electronic music, as could be heard at the Immling Opera Festival.
Particularly opera houses in Eastern Europe engage her on a regular basis, such as the Opera Cracow / Poland, the Baroque Festival Tbilisi / Georgia with the Georgian Sinfonietta (Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra), the State Opera Novi Sad (Serbia) or the State Opera Baku Azerbaijan.
She is regularly invited by the Städetebundtheater Passau / Germany, and has played with the Baroque Ensemble “La Beata Olanda” Freiburg / Germany, the Salzburg Baroque Orchestra / Austria and the Stadttheater Biel / Solothurn in Switzerland. Ms von Kerssenbrock had a variety of concerts with German orchestras such as the Munich Symphonic Orchestra, Hamburg Symphonic Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hannover ( the South Westphalia Philharmonic, the Philharmonic State Orchestra from Halle, the State Theater Kassel and Mainz and others.

Since 2002 Ms von Kerssenbrock is the Chief Conductor and Musical Director of the Opera Festival Immling in Bavaria / Germany. Here she has been conducting operas by Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Bizet, Mozart, Händel, Vivaldi and others. She made an name for herself with regards to her Verdi Interpretations and innovative baroque productions Cornelia von Kerssenbrock is collaborating with different Chinese Music Universities
like the Peking University, Xingxiang Music University for Music or the Singhai University of Music in Guangzhou working on opera productions there. She also is collaborating regularly with Orchestras in Italy, Georgia, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, China and Canada.

From 2017
2020 she was Musical Director of the Swakopmund Music Festival / Namibia.
On the 25th of November 2022 Cornelia von Kerssenbrock was awarded with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
